about

Metallic elements are most often found in chemical combinations with one or more non-metallic elements. These combinations are known as ore, the most common being iron, copper, and zinc. Significant energy must be expended to reduce the ore to pure metal. This can be applied via metallurgical or chemical means. Additional energy may also be used in the form of cold-working or heating and casting the pure metal into a working shape. The degradation of metal is called corrosion, which causes metals to revert to their original state of ore. This process can include both exposure to oxygen in the environment and electrochemical processes, in which the metal forms corrosion cells on its surface that greatly accelerate the transformation to a degraded form.

The hardest workers are often found in the most desperate places. The most common are the inner cities, or street corners filled with illegal immigrants. Significant effort must be expended to reduce the workers to pure compliance. This can be applied via subtle pressure or overt threats. Additional methods may also be used in the form of negative reinforcement and insufficient pay to push the workers into a hopeless and dependent state. The degradation of workers is called control, which causes them to revert to a state of malleability. This process can include both exposure to harassment in the work environment and critical review processes, in which the workers form concepts of self-worth based on job performance and supervisory approval that greatly accelerate their speed and efficiency.
